Gainsborough Keeps

At the heart of our curriculum is a commitment to developing children as confident, responsible and active citizens. Inspired by the values of Gainsborough Primary School, our Keep’s Curriculum provides a meaningful framework through which pupils apply their learning to real-life contexts and make a genuine difference within their community and beyond.

Our Gainsborough Keeps are centred around our whole school motto:

“Excellence in everything. Always Striving.”

School Motto

Our Six ‘Gainsborough Keeps’

Keep Safe

Teaching children how to keep themselves and others safe in different areas in life such as online safety and showing safe behaviours.

Keep Healthy

Teaching children how to keep their bodies and minds healthy. Through social and emotional interventions, sports and healthy eating.

Keep Connected

Keeping connected with what is happening in the world around us. Encouraging children to share their opinions and have their voice heard through campaigns organised.

Keep Giving

Working to support others to have their rights met in our community, country and around the world. Supporting different charities and organisation that will enable this.

Keep Green

To work together to look after our environment, making it a nice place for others to live, go to school or work there.

Keep Kind

To develop strategies to manage feelings and emotions to promote positive relationships that support learning and development.

The curriculum is built around key values: Keep Safe, Keep Healthy, Keep Connected, Keep Giving, Keep Green and Keep Kind, which encourage children to strive for excellence in all aspects of their lives and develop as lifelong learners and responsible global citizens.

Through this approach, pupils engage in purposeful campaigns and projects that bring learning to life. Children use their voices to lead change, whether advocating for environmental improvements, supporting local and global charities, promoting wellbeing, or raising awareness of important social issues. These campaigns are designed to be authentic and impactful, ensuring that pupil voice is not only heard but acted upon.

A key aim of the Keep’s Curriculum is to provide real-life opportunities for oracy. Pupils regularly present ideas, lead assemblies, debate issues, and communicate with a range of audiences including peers, staff, families and the wider community. This strengthens confidence, articulation and the ability to influence others.

The curriculum also fosters strong connections with our local area and the wider London community, encouraging pupils to understand the world around them and their role within it. By engaging with local initiatives and wider campaigns, children develop a sense of belonging and responsibility at both a local and global level.

Learning within PSHE and our rights-respecting ethos is brought to life through this work. Pupils actively explore and apply the principles of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, using them as a foundation for their campaigns and decision-making. Alongside this, children engage with global sustainability themes, taking action to care for the environment and contribute to a fairer, more sustainable world.

Through the Keep’s Curriculum, pupils are empowered to:

  • Use their voice to influence change
  • Take ownership of projects that matter to them
  • Develop as confident communicators and leaders
  • Understand and uphold their rights and responsibilities
  • Care for their environment and community

The impact is a school community where children are not only learners, but active changemakers; equipped with the knowledge, skills and motivation to improve their local area and contribute positively to the wider world.
