Year 5 visited Keats House as part of a poetry programme programme supported by the London Symphony Orchestra. Year 5 enjoyed listening to and discovering the poets work in the home he worked in. Well done Year 5. @keatshousemuseum @londonsymphonyorchestra

Year 5 are making pulleys in their Mechanisms unit this week for DT. They will use these pulleys in their poo up book about Space to share with parents at the end of term. They are going to be OUT OF THIS 🌎!

We represented Gainsborough at the Hackney Music Gala yesterday. Small and mighty, we joined the Hackney Borough Youth Choir and Berger to sing 2 songs from the Hackney music festival we took part in in the summer term. Well done Year 5 and Gainsborough choir, we are incredibly proud of you. #keepconnected

Our Year 5/6 boys football team took part in a HSAA competition last week. We didn’t place, but we competed, smiled and learnt. Well done boys! #keephealthy

Year 6 visited the Low Carbon Banquet exhibited at the Hackney Service Centre this week. The banquet has been designed by artist @ling.tan.ql to raise awareness of the carbon our food uses and how we can reduce that. The children in year 5 and 6 have grown, prepared and eaten food at Gainsborough and their photos, videos and climate actions are part of the installation. Thank you @ling.tan.ql for this opportunity, many low carbon meals will now follow! #keepgreen #keephealthy #keepconnected

We made headdresses for our Caribbean carnival representing each different carnival dance we have learnt. Year 1 Jamaica 🇯🇲, Year 2 Trinidad 🇹🇹, Year 3 Guyana 🇬🇾, Year 4 Brazil 🇧🇷, Year 5 Dominican Republic 🇩🇴, Year 6 Cuba 🇨🇺!

Year 5 made Aqua de Jamaica 🇯🇲 in DT this week. They learnt to simmer, strain and combine hibiscus flowers, ginger, lime and water to make this delicious Caribbean drink. We served these drinks at our Black History Month celebration to our families. Well done year 5!

Year 5 enjoyed an informative and interactive tour of the Docklands Museum. They looked at the history of the Thames and its uses through the ages, as part of their geography learning, and travelled back in time to when the Docks were the epicentre of trade in London as part of their history learning. Well done Year 5!

Year 5 visited the British Museum to look at artefacts from the Vikings as part of their history unit. They studied the Viking jewellery, tools and homeware and were shocked how similar these things were to the things we still use today! #keepconnected

Year 5 blasted us off into space this afternoon. They led us through their science learning about life in space and taught what training was needed to become an astronaut. They wrote and performed a song to help us remember what life onboard a space station is really like. Well done year 5. 🚀
