Our Priorities

Our priorities are based on what we know matters to local families and on the needs we see through our day-to-day work.

Our priorities are not fixed. They change as the needs of our families change.

Giving children the best start

We want children to have the best possible start in life, with opportunities to develop their communication, physical, social and emotional skills through play and early learning.

Supporting families early

We want families to know where they can turn when they need help. Sometimes this might be a quick conversation or signposting to another service, sometimes a family may need more support. Our aim is to make sure families do not feel they have to manage everything alone.

Supporting SEND and emerging needs

We want children with SEND or emerging additional needs to be identified early and for families to know what support is available. This links closely with Hackney’s current SEND priorities around early intervention, inclusion, family-centred support and getting the right support to children at the right time.

Supporting families who may experience greater barriers

We work hard to make sure our offer reaches families who may be less likely to access services or who face additional challenges. This includes Traveller families, families experiencing financial pressures, SEND families, and families who may need additional support with housing, health, childcare or accessing education.

Improving access to early education

We want families to understand the childcare and early education available to them, including funded places, and to support parents to take up provision where this is right for their child and family.

Listening to families

We want parents and carers to have a voice in what we provide. Hackney’s recent strategic work has placed a strong emphasis on parents and carers being partners in services and on working with communities to understand what families actually need.
